Beaches to explore
on your doorstep

Of course, you can’t really visit Devon without including a trip (or two) to a beach. And with numerous fabulous beaches within easy reach of Appledore, Catboat Cottage makes an ideal base for beach lovers of all ages.

Closest to home is Appledore’s own beach, easily accessed from a slipway just metres from the cottage.

Hours can be whiled away exploring the rockpools at low tide or beachcombing for buried treasures along the estuary shore.

Meanwhile, a short car journey or ferry ride across the River Torridge will take you to Instow’s attractive sandy beach. With lots to do for children and plenty of space to play.

Combining a wide expanse of sand with a diverse beachscape, the Blue Flag beach at Westward Ho! offers something for everyone; families, sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts alike.

As well as swathes of beautiful sand and perfect conditions for water-based activities, the beaches at Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay boast some of the highest temperatures in Britain!

Located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the Hartland Peninsula is breathtaking with its huge cliffs, sandy and rocky beach, and on a clear day, view to Lundy Island.

Last but by no means least, there’s Woolacombe Beach, with its three-mile long stretch of golden sand, superb water quality and amazing view.  Not only is it considered one of the best beaches in the West Country, but also regularly tops polls as the best beach in Britain.
